The Laksha Jewelry Box is a limited-edition piece, handcrafted by skilled artisans from the Kandy and Matale regions of Sri Lanka with an unbroken lacquerware lineage stretching back generations. Each box is shaped on a traditional lathe and etched entirely by hand, cutting through the lacquer to reveal the warm amber beneath.

Behind the Craft

Every Laksha Jewelry box is made by traditional artisans from Matale, part of a craft community that has kept this tradition alive for centuries. A craft introduced to the island from India, it took root in the Kandy and Matale regions and has been passed down through generations ever since. Each box begins as a piece of natural wood, shaped on a Pattala before shellac is applied to the surface. The mandala motifs are meticulously scratched into the surface by hand, revealing the warm amber lacquer beneath layer by layer.
Because every box is made this way, subtle variations in pattern and finish are inevitable, the natural signatures of something made by human hands, not a machine.

Product Care

The Laksha box is a lacquered wood piece that rewards a little care.

  • Keep it out of direct sunlight for long periods as this can fade the lacquer over time.
  • Keep it away from moisture and avoid chemical cleaners or abrasive cloths on the surface.
  • To clean, simply wipe with a soft dry cloth.
  • The etched detailing is hand-carved and the lacquer, while durable, can chip if knocked hard enough.

Treat it with care and it will last.

Domestic Shipping (Canada):We offer standard flat-rate shipping on all orders within Canada, with free shipping on orders over $75. 

U.S. Shipping:Standard flat-rate shipping is available for all U.S. orders, excluding Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. Territories.
